I mean can I get an Amen! Who struggles in achieving volume and body in their hair? Well, if you do I'm here to fix your problem! So first and foremost, lets gather the product you will need to achieve for a voluminous style. Below, I've listed a few of my favorite go-to products I use in the salon and at home.
It all starts with the four P's...
PREP, PRIME, PLUMP, & POLISH
Step One is Prime. Gently massage 3-4 pumps of your favorite oil into the palm of your hands. Apply from the middle to the ends of the hair. Depending on the amount of hair, you can add more if necessary.
Step 2 is Protect. Apply your favorite heat protectant from scalp to ends. The heat protectant you choose to use will vary depending on your hair density and texture. For fine hair clients, I suggest on using a lightweight heat proctectant spray(Dede Hair Mist or R+Co One Prep Spray). Clients with medium- coarse hair textures, I recommend using a lightweight head protectant spray or heat protectant balm. Remember, the amount of product used on the hair, will determine the amount of body the hair will achieve.
Step 3 is Plump. To achieve the desired height & body for your hair, use a voluminous mousse, volume mist, root plump, or salt spray. If using a mousse, pump about a golfball size into the palm of your hand. Apply graciously throughout the hair...be careful though don't use to much, you can always add more! When using a volume mist, spray up to four spritz evenly throughout the hair. Last but not least, when using a root plump or my favorite, salt spray, take horizontal sections (parallel to the part line) from the top of the head and spray 2-3 spritz of product in the desired root area. Make sure to evenly comb through product for even distribution.
Step 4 is Polish. Once you've applied all your product, rough dry the hair to about 85-90% dry. Section your mohawk area away from the rest of your hair. Your mohawk section are the points from the middle of your eyebrows, to the top of the head. Finish drying the hair that isn't sectioned off with an ionic bristle round brush. The ionic bristle allows for a smoother and shinier blow out. Once you have finished drying the hair, un-clip the mohawk section and begin to take 1" horizontal partings from the top of the head. On each section of the hair, alternate the round brush at a 90* and 45* degree angle. This technique allows the root to create volume within your blow out.
So there we have it, grab your product and your round brushes and lets create a bangin blow out! Feel free to share your results with me on Instagram! @hairbynoelrenee
