Curly Q

Hi ya'll, sorry I've been a little absent the last few weeks, I unfortunately was diagnosed with thyroid cancer & have been a little pre-occupied. But don't fret! I am back & ready to chat. So, today I want to talk to you about curly hair. And like me, I'm sure many of you would die for the chance to have curly hair! They always say "you always want what you can't have". Ain't that the truth!

Denver (my current city) is notorious for being incredibly dry, so I find that the majority of my clients with curls struggle to keep it tamed. So I am going to share with ya'll a few tricks and whistles to help you out with this curly conundrum. Products are always the number one tool to tame a mane. I like to steer towards a flexible hold gel... and don't freak when I say gel, there is an answer to not get sticky hair. When using a gel, make sure your hair is completely wet. I mean literally get out of the shower, drain some of the water from the hair, and put about a quater size of gel through out the hair. Let that naturally dry within the hair or diffuse it. That will define your curl without giving it a gel look or feel. Another product I love to use is a curl cream. I use this more as a finisher then a starter in my curl styling. It gives a flexible control to the frizz while leaving the curls looking hydrated. No curly girl is going to complain about that! Remember different curl textures react to products differently. But isn't that the beauty of product? You can play with so many.

On top of having an all star product arsenal, I always highly recommend keratin treatments on curly, frizzy, and/or unruly hair. My salon offers two different keratins. We have GK Keratin and OXO Organic Keratin. They are both amazing and also have their differences. The Organic Keratin has natural ingredients (no unwanted chemicals), a smoothing booster, and lasts up to 8 months on the hair. The GK Keratin lasts up to 3 months, and functions similarly to other traditional chemical keratin treatments. If you aren't a big product junky, a Keratin treatment will be your best friend. This will help give you the control factor products help to fix temporarily.

Curling irons aren't the only tool you need to create pretty curls...the prettiest curls are right on top of your head. So own it, flaunt it, and love it!
